In order to not have depression in your life you should know what are the causes, or what can lead to depression
Well there are multiple of reasons and they depend on the situation you are facing.
Here I will sum up the causes that we as young generation are facing
1. Expectations : As we all have heard the saying that expections lead to disappointments, it stands true. We expect things to work the way we feel successful and if they do not it causes us pain which is ok but to hold on to those expectations that were never met can cause long term sadness and eventually depression.
And the expectation from family to be certain way, expectations from friends to treat them certain way, expectations from self also can lead us to depression.
2. Standards set by society : Society has set the standards for everything. From beauty to brains. From carriers to marriages. From dressing sense to modesty. In short it has set standards which are serotypical in many ways. When we do not meet those standards we are made to feel left out. If we don't look the way they feel beautiful then we are not. If we are not born in some particular race then we are inferior to some.
So society is one of main causes of anxiety and depressions among every age group.
3. Drug abuse : Drug abuse is a major problem in the world. The abuse of drugs can have serious ramifications on a person’s physical health, mental health, and overall well-being. Drugs create both changes in behavior and in the way the brain works, Continued abuse of drugs can be a warning sign that an individual is beginning to lose control over their drug use, which can lead to depression.
4. Failures : Failures are nothing but a chance to try again. some of us are better at it than others, but that’s kind of obvious too. Some are good at one thing and some at other. Some achieve success in one thing and some in other. When we fail, we think it's the end if it. We forget that it's ok to fail. We get sad and if we think of failure as permanent the sadness becomes permanent too which is called as depression.
5. Some people have relationship problems, some have money problems, others have anxiety issues or screwed up beliefs about what others think about you? These things if not handled with strong mind and clear thoughts can lead to depression also.
Now let's know how we can tackle anxiety and depression ;
There are a range of ways to deal with depression. The primary medical options are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), antidepressant medication, and in some severe cases, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).
But here we will talk about, CBT - an excellent treatment for depression, alone or in conjunction with medication. CBT is very effective and 80% of people with mild, moderate or severe depression improve. CBT involves learning:
To control the negative thoughts that lead to loss of interest and feelings of worthlessness : So how do we do that, it requires a lot of efforts. Whenever negative thoughts come up in your mind just think about the positive stuff you have done all your life and the good luck you have had since day one. Remembering that you are the best and may be times are worse. Remembering that these times will pass.
To combat the emotions of sadness and hopelessness and Loss of energy, even when not physically active.
